The Swazi Lilangeni (plural Emalangeni) is pegged to the South African Rand at par. The currency is denominated in units of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 Cents with L1, E2, and E5 Lilangeni coins. The bills are denominated in E10, E20, E50, E100 and E200 notes.
A 1 Lilangeni coin has exactly the same dimensions and composition as a one Pound Sterling coin. As these coins are worth less than a £1 coin, they are sometimes used fraudulently in British vending machines.
Origin:
In 1981, the Central Bank of Swaziland took over the production of paper money. The first issued notes commemorated the Diamond Jubilee of King Sobhuza II, who was the King of Swaziland from 1899 until his death in 1982. This made him the longest verifiable reigning monarch in recorded history.
